The healing process is complex. Our bodies are designed to be able to heal themselves. However, there are actions that we must do for the healing to take place in the most efficient and effective ways. This article is intended to empower you to take action and help your child to be able to move forward with their recovery, healing, and thriving.
There are ways to accomplish all of the following without your child feeling left out of fun or treats. I have done all of the following and more over the years for my son, who is now sixteen, and is happy and thriving beautifully.
You need no special degree or certification to support your child's health and recovery in powerful ways. You are the parent and they need you to do this for them.
Doctors treat symptoms. When you are going for actual healing, a more holistic approach can be more effective. Sometimes this means using a combination of allopathic and natural treatments.
Remember your power: You have more than you may realize. When I started helping my son, I had no training or skills in natural health and healing, and yet I jumped right in and did what I could as I learned along the way. You can do this, too. I hope that my sharing the knowledge and experience I have gained over the years can help to make your and your children's journeys easier than ours.
#1 - Do Everything You Can to Keep Chemicals Away from Your Child.
Sensitive people’s bodies have difficulty processing and detoxifying chemicals and other toxins. Unfortunately, there are multitudes of them in our air, water, and food supplies. However, there are many things you can do to keep extra chemicals away from your child’s body. This eases the toxic burden they have to deal with and allows for healing to take place. It also allows for their bodies to return to and maintain a state of balance and homeostasis more gently. The more the body has to detoxify, the worse your child will feel. Here is how you can do this:
#2 - Support Their Bodies with the Best Nutrition You Can Provide.
What kids eat is a vital piece to them being able to thrive. Here are some action steps you can take to support your child’s well-being. Be consistent. If your child attends school, make sure to send snacks, water, and food from home each day. If there will be treats given at school, send your child with food you have prepared from home that is safe and healthy to eat.
#3 - Support Them Through the Detox Process.
In the beginning, their bodies will have to go through a cleansing process as the chemicals are detoxified. Sometimes they may appear to be struggling even more than before. This will pass. The more chemicals they have been exposed to over time, the more they will have to detox. Here are some things you can do to make the detoxification process more efficient and less unpleasant:
I have shared with you some basic foundations pieces that you can put into place to support your child’s healing and well-being. If you need more action steps, there are more that you can implement once these have been consistently established. You can refer to my book, The Foundations System, for many more ideas and tools that you can use yourself to supports your child’s healing and overall health.

I have written and spoken a lot about autism over the years. Its exponential effects on our youngest generations have resulted in large amounts of scientific research. And this is a good thing, because although we don't have all of the answers or the solutions yet, we have enough to empower parents to get started helping their children on their own.
Autism is multifaceted. Any approach that is not holistic is severely limiting. Autism must be approached from all sides, and from as many angles as possible in order to be effective. Whereas some children with ADHD can show immediate improvement with dietary changes, most children with autism will need other interventions along with diet in order to show any improvements at all. Again, it is multifaceted, and so it requires a holistic approach to show signficiant changes.
Think of the human experience as multi-leveled: The physical body, the mind, the emotions, the spirit, and the rest of energy that we cannot see and are not acutely aware. All of these must be addressed when it comes to autism. When I wrote, The Foundations System, I was focusing on creating a way to bring all of these levels together so that people could work with them simultaneously. This is exactly what those with autism need. There are more methods that can hep autism than what I included in the book, but the concept of bringing it all together works with whatever methods you choose to use.
One of the worst missteps a parent can take is to try a healing diet and then stop using it because no changes were apparent. The diet is simply one part of a larger puzzle that will not function if all of the other pieces are not in place. Stick to the diet no matter what. It is a vital fundamental piece of the puzzle and the rest cannot work without it being firmly in place.
All people's dietary needs are different. However, when it comes to autism, there are basic guidelines that are essential to follow for diet:
Eating this way is the foundation for being able to heal and to live a healthy life.
All children with autism need to have their bodies detoxified and then remain clean and toxin-free. Spiritually, a sensitive being will not be able to be grounded with the body if it is full of toxicity. Physically, the body will not be able to function correctly when damaged by toxins.
Another thing to consider regarding autism is that some children will recover and some will not. The damage to the body for some is just too great. However, you will not know that unless you try and give it all you've got. Many, many children who were non-verbal have gained the ability to speak after implementing multi-leveled interventions. Many, many children have healed from the co-morbid conditions they were also experiencing. You have to try and then see what will happen. In other words, give your child the chance to be healthy by providing them with all that they need in order to do so.
Never, ever give up on your child or on your own ability to do something powerful to help him or her. Focus on what is needed to accomplish detoxification because it is only then that healing can occur. Remove what is causing harm and bring in what will help to heal.
We all want to be healthy. The problem is that there is too much conflicting information available to us and most people just don't know what to listen to as the truth.
I get really fed up with people who claim to experts and are leading people toward their own special health product or fad diet that is supposed to fix everything and make their lives all better. Because the truth is that these people don't know you or your family. They don't know your lives, your genetics, your environment. They don't know who you are and what you need. And additionally, most of these experts haven't experienced what you or your children have.
Here are some of the really bad ones to watch out for:
Any kind of vitamin drink
These are usually filled with sugar and chemicals. They will just make gain weight, not make you more healthy. The vitamins are synthetic, not natural.
Anything labeled "gluten free"
Now, I am a huge no-gluten diet advocate for many reasons. In order to follow a healthy gluten free diet, you need to know that products are labeled "gluten free" often contain other starches like rice, other grains, or tapioca, cassava, corn or potato. All these products will do is make you gain weight and cause insulin resistance because they are so full of non-nutritive carbohydrates (i.e. sugar to your body). Don't look at the marketing; read the ingredient labels to decide what to purchase and consume.
Anything labeled "sugar free"
Yes, sugar is a bad no-no. But if something tastes sweet and does not contain sugar, it will contain something else. Some sweeteners are natural like honey and pure stevia, while some are artificial, chemical sweeteners. Synthetic sweeteners are toxic to the body. Becoming more and more popular today are sugar alcohols like xylitol and erythritol. These sugar alcohols can cause a lot of digestive distress for some people. Read the actual ingredient labels and don't just buy something because it says it is sugar free. Products sweetened with HFCS are especially toxic.
Anything labeled "All Natural"
This label means literally nothing in the U.S. Anyone can use these words on the label of their products without regulation. And natural does not mean organic.
A vendor actually asked me once in a health food grocery store if I would like to try some healthy alcohol. It was made from super healthy coconut water so it was better for you than regular beer. Um.... No! Alcohol is toxic to the liver and it doesn't matter what it's made from.
Fruit smoothies and fruit juices
For a non-diabetic, a little bit of fruit is a healthy thing. However, fruit smoothies and juices are extremely high in sugar (fructose). We are told that fruit in any form is healthy, and that as long as it is pure fruit sweetened, it is alright and good for us to consume. This is just not true. Fructose is sugar and it has the same effect of raising blood glucose levels and causing weight gain as any other kind of sugar-it just has some vitamins and antioxidants that come along with it. When you take a bunch of fruit and blend it up or juice it, you are basically predigesting it so that when you consume it, your blood sugar will rise more quickly than if you had eaten just one piece of fruit and had to chew it to break down the cell walls.
Evaporated cane juice - the "healthy sugar"
No, it is not healthy. I actually had the owner of an herbal healing shop tell me once that the bars she was selling at the counter were healthy when I refused to buy one for my son, because they contained the healthy kind sugar. It was evaporated cane juice. Sugar is sugar. Sugar from sugar beets is most likely GMO in the U.S., but cane juice is still toxic to the body, causes weight gain and insulin resistance, hyperactivity, and sugar rushes and subsequent crashes. Even "all natural" candy that contains sugar is still harmful to your body. It may not contain synthetic flavors or colors, but the sugar will hurt you.
Energy comes from inside of you. If you need more energy, eat some protein, drink some water, sit in the sunshine, or take a power nap. Energy drinks don't give you real energy; they give you a sugar or caffeine rush. Stay away from these toxic soups that are most definitely not natural or health-promoting.
Any type of supplement that contains synthetic preservatives and/or additives
If a company is really aligned with helping people to be healthy, they will not add toxic chemicals to their products.
Drinks, smoothies, bars, or meal replacements for weight loss
The key to weight loss is controlling your diet, not eating toxic, chemical-filled bars and smoothies. There are so many fad diets out there and people really end up suffering because they never truly teach them how to eat properly to lose and maintain healthy weight. Stay away from the fads and learn how to be a healthy eater for life. You can learn more in my course, Healthy Weight Loss for Wellness.
Anyone that claims that their special diet or way of eating is the best and will have the same effects for everyone.
Everyone's body is different. There is no one way of eating that will cure everyone's ailments or give everyone more energy. The complexities of the allergies, sensitivities, and health conditions that people are experiencing today require that food is used specifically in an individual way to achieve health results. The only underlying foundation that is the same across the board to support optimal health is to eat organic, whole foods. However, this is not a cure; it is a foundation for supporting you in living a healthy life.
The overall key to being empowered is to avoid marketing ploys. When you purchase and ingest pure, whole, organic foods, you are on the best track to setting yourself and your family up to being healthy. Read the labels and ignore the marketing and you will be OK in a world where untruths run rampant.
